Experience the Rice Advantage

You will be in an online class with Rice undergraduates and students from other universities. The amount of work required for each course depends on the number of credit hours. Each credit hour is equivalent to 2,100 minutes of combined instruction and student preparation time.

Dates & Fees

Offering online summer sessions allows Rice the opportunity to extend access and support undergraduate educational goals in a time when summer plans have been widely disrupted. For Summer Sessions 2020, we are offering our courses to visiting undergraduate students for $500 per credit hour, and offering a 50% discount for the third course (e.g., after 6 credit hours). To resume an application, please log in to your student portal. You will find a saved instance of your application in the tab titled “My Applications”.


Who is eligible to apply?
All visiting undergraduate students are invited to apply, and high school students in the Class of 2020, 2021 and 2022. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept applications from high school students graduating in 2023 or later at this time.

Currently enrolled Rice students should register online via ESTHER as per normal registration processes and procedures for courses they wish to register for.

How do I apply?
To apply, students will need to submit the application materials to the Rice University Office of the Registrar. Please review the Registrar's Summer Sessions page for details prior to applying.

Will this help my chances of being accepted as a Rice undergraduate?
Admission to Rice Summer Sessions does not in any way influence your admission to Rice as an undergraduate.
